I wore these on the pacific crest trail. My favorite sock...
In the warm sections of the pct (and warm days in the sierras) this was my preferred choice. Although mostly wool, and so you might think a very warm sock, this is the ultralight and cooler option. The material is quite thin overal and particularly along the top of your foot, make it easier for moisture to wick away.

I wore one of these pairs basically every other day for 11 weeks, hiking 10-12 hours a day. After about 600 miles on one pair there started to appear a few holes at the big toe and heel. But, this is darn tough, so lifetime warranty for as long as the company is around.

I now just wear these socks in the everyday use that makes sense for this variety.

Socks. We often take them for granted in this day and age. In our modern world of throw-away, disposable culture it may seem ridiculous to spend $12-20 on a single pair of socks, when you can go to a big box store and buy a 6 or 10 pack for the same price. I am here to tell you that these socks are worth it. Its a life-changing experience, really. You have to change the way you think about money, value, material things, and lifestyle. I recently challenged myself to change the way I think about both my style and expenditures on everything from the extravagant to the pedestrian. Its paying off. My approach now is to pay top-dollar for quality products made by American companies that stand behind what they make with a lifetime warranty. You can't go wrong with these socks. They are comfortable in hot and cold weather and take abuse. When (if) they wear out, return them for upgrades. Its an investment. Your feet and your life is worth it. You save money in the long run. Your closet remains clutter-free. I own 6 pair of Darn Tough, for work, play and the gym. I honestly don't think I will need to buy socks ever again, but they make so many cool styles and colorways, its probably inevitable that I will. I strongly recommend The following:

-Merino Wool Micro Crew Cushion
-Merino Wool No-Show Light Cushion Athletic
-1/4 Merino Wool Ultra-Light Athletic

Pass socks to your grandkids? sounds crazy, but these are worthy.

Strange fit. Strange feel of material. Strange toe-box with a squared off seam that rubs in an irritating way.
Are these Darn Toughs or a knock-off? I ordered from Shoe Annex and don't know what's going on.

This is the first of many pairs of DTs that I haven't absolutely loved from the very beginning.. Just received these as I slowly replace every dang sock I own with DTs, but these are just... strange. As other's have mentioned, the feel long and odd fitting and the material is rather coarse in comparison to every other single DT pair I have. The worst is a seam that run across the very top edge of the toe, which is also seamed to be squared in a way making that seam even *more* noticeable and strange feeling.

I've only worn them in the living room for an hour and walked around the house but ... I really don't think I'd like these on my feet all day, especially with that seam rubbing against the tops of my toes and my shoes. We'll see....

I wear 10.5 in shoes (Vans, Adidas, Nike) so I ordered size Large. I washed and put them through the dryer before I wore them. So I assume they shrunk at least a bit in the dryer. When I tried them on the heel pulled up by my Achilles tendon. So, they were long. I adjusted them so that my heal lines up right and it isn't too much slack. The sock stayed on my foot just fine all day. I can see how they'd be tight around the foot for someone with large feet (wide, not long).

The second issue that I have with these socks is that the toe boxes are square, and also kind of tight. They are definitely uncomfortable when I first put them on, but throughout my day I didn't notice them much until I actually started thinking about my socks. And even then, it wasn't as uncomfortable as when I first put them on. They just aren't as comfortable as I'd like.

I included a picture that has the sock on the ground, on my foot (if you look at the toe next to my big toe there is a tiny point which is the corner of the sock), and another sock that has a rounder, and much more comfortable, toe.

I walk A LOT for work and I'm interested to see the true lifetime of these socks. They will be worn once a week. I will update if I have any issues.

UPDATE July 2018:

The socks are still going strong. The issues I complained about (square toe) are still present, but I have gotten use to them and do not mind. I especially don't mind because the socks seem as good as the day I bought them. I have bought some more Darn Tough socks and I think I will exclusively wear Darn Tough socks. They are expensive, but in the long run I think they are worth it and will cost less than buying other socks.
